IH ENGLISH EXTEMPORE COMPETITION CLASSES: III – V (DATE-24-07-2024)

Delhi Public School, Gaya always thrives to cater to the all-round development of its students. The main focus of the school has always been on improving the Soft Skills of the students. With this intention in mind, IH English Extempore Competition has been organized for the students of Classes III to V on 24 July, 2024. The objective of the competition is to make the students confident and better orators so that they can fearlessly express their views on any topic. It is an excellent way to assist the students not only in spontaneous thinking but also in asserting their creative ideas with precision.

Audience                :         Grade V (The subject teachers of the 5th period will
accompany the students to the auditorium with full discipline.) 

Rules that are to be followed both during the selection rounds and on the final competition day:

1. Initial Selection Rounds:

  • Teachers will conduct selection rounds for students from all the houses.
  • Each house may nominate a specified number of participants to compete in the selection rounds.

2. Molding Finalists:

  • The selected finalists will be further molded and trained to meet the competition's standards.
  • Teachers will provide guidance and feedback to enhance the finalists' performance.

3. Topic Selection:

  • Participants will draw their topics randomly during the selection rounds and on competition day.
  • Each participant will have a limited preparation time (e.g., 1-2 minutes) before speaking.

4. Speaking Time:

  • Each participant will be given a fixed amount of time to deliver their speech (e.g., 1-2 minutes).
  • Exceeding the time limit may result in point deductions.

5. Judging Criteria:

  • Content: relevance to the topic, clarity of thought, and originality
  • Delivery: fluency, pronunciation, voice modulation, and confidence
  • Organization: structure, logical flow, and coherence
  • Language: grammar, vocabulary, and usage of language
  • Overall Impact: engagement with the audience and overall effectiveness of the speech.

6. Scoring and Point Deductions:

  • Judges will score each participant based on the criteria listed above.
  • Point deductions may occur for exceeding time limits, significant topic deviation, or misconduct.

7. Code of Conduct:

  • Participants must adhere to competition rules and maintain proper decorum.
  • Respect for fellow participants, judges, and the audience is mandatory.
