September 15th, 2022

SPIC MACAY is a non-political, nationwide, voluntary movement founded in 1977 by Dr. Kiran Seth, Professor-Emeritus at IIT Delhi. He was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to the arts in 1999. The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) has been striving tirelessly to enrich the legacy of Indian classic arts. It endeavours to enlighten today’s youth about our rich cultural heritage and mitigate the complex portrayal of classical arts. Delhi Public School, Gaya organized SPIC MACAY SYMPHONY MEET on September 15, 2022 to promote India’s rich cultural heritage. At the outset, Principal, Mr. Satyendra Kumar Mishra presented bouquet to Tamal Kanti Rajak, an exponent of Chhou Dance. Close on the heels of welcoming the chief guest, the divine lamp was lighted with mellifluous rendition of Saraswati Vandana. The event witnessed vivacious portrayal of classical Chhou dance, premised on the theme of Mahishasur Mardini. The costumes, masks and an inimitable blend of dance and martial art define Chhou Dance. The mid-air gyration and perpetual stamping of feet by the performers, invoking deities riveted the audience. The event culminated with Maa Durga slaying the demon king, Mahishasur. In the wake of the culmination of the event, Tamal Kanti Rajak and his group of artists were felicitated by the Principal, Mr. Satyendra Kumar Mishra. They were bestowed with mementos as tokens of appreciation from Delhi Public School, Gaya. Pro-Vice Chairman, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar and Principal, Mr. Satyendra Kumar Mishra heaped encomiums on the performers. They exhorted the young generation to preserve the legacy of Indian classic arts as envisaged by SPIC MACAY.
